GFP's 25th Anniversary

We've come a long way since the Government Finance Profession was established as the accountancy service twenty-five years ago and since departments first produced resource accounts in 2000.

We now have over 4,000 qualified accountants in central government, compared with around 600 in 1982, and there are of course many more across the wider public sector.  All except one of our major departments now has a qualified Finance Director - with continuing plans to improve both the strength and depth of professional expertise right across department budgets.  This means excellent opportunities for qualified accountants!

During 2007, we marked our 25th anniversary with a number of things including a booklet recording the history of the Government Finance Profession and a film sponsored by Lloyds TSB to celebrate our work across government.  This film is unique in that it features many of our Finance Professional colleagues.

There was also an inaugural GFP Awards ceremony in association with CIMA held in Brighton on 15 November 2007.  It was a massive success and the GFP Awards are now set to become an annual event.
