QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY HONOUR FOR DAME MARY KEEGAN
(posted 20 June 2007)

Professional colleagues will be delighted to learn of the following in this year 's Birthday honours round:

Mary Keegan, has been awarded Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE)

Since joining the Treasury in 2004, Mary has made a hugely significant and lasting contribution to both the organisation itself and to the wider government agenda in financial management, government accounting and public spending. Her committed leadership of GFM and her role in improving the Treasury's own financial management has been of great benefit to the corporate side of the department. She has also led the professional tranformation of financial management within government. Thanks largely to her drive and enthusiasm all government departments but one have professionally qualified Finance Directors. Outside of her Treasury experience, in her role as Chair of the Accounting Standards Board from 2001-2004 she oversaw the issue of key standards on retirement benefits (FRS 17) and worked to level playing fields on international accounting. She is a highly regarded commentator on accountancy and finance matters
