Core Financial Management (FM) Skills

Financial Management is one of the core skills expected of every Civil Servant aspiring to any Grade 7 and Senior Civil Service (SCS) post (including board level) in central government.

So whether you are in policy delivery, seeking to raise standards in early years' education, or in operational delivery providing services to the public, or in any sphere of corporate services delivery (HR, IT, Procurement) you will be required to demonstrate much higher standards of financial management. Where you don't meet the expected standard, then there are development opportunities to improve.

In short, PSG wants all non-finance managers to be better equipped in a range of core skills - of which financial management is just one - in order to do an excellent job in supporting the work of government.
